Back on the 20th November 2018, I attended The Sleep & Eat Event at the Kensington Olympia, London and met some great people from the impressive Dutch lighting manufacturers Quasar...
...Jump forward to earlier this week, where I made the (very wind assisted) short hop from Manchester Airport, across the North Sea to Amsterdam. I was collected by the ever-smiling Arie Lobregt (Quasar's Export Manager) - Arie has been an integral part of the company from the very beginning, starting out as a trainee over 27 years ago in accounting before moving onto sales and finally export, and is very much still heavily involved with all things Quasar, so I'm really honoured he took time out of his busy schedule to collect me from the airport!
After a couple of embarrassing, panicky moments trying to locate my wallet (which thankfully I hadn't left on the plane as first anticipated!) we headed to the wonderful Bistro JAN by de Luwte restaurant in the town of Waalwijk for a good catch up and a great dinner (special thanks to Arie's wife for the recommendation!)
Back at the hotel, and whilst I don't usually watch TV at home (other than the rare televised Burnley FC match), I always like to have a quick flick through the channels whenever I'm in a hotel abroad! Well this time, my luck was in - Scarface - a film I'd somehow never managed to see before was on, so I was all set up for the night! Now I'm not sure if it was the 170 minutes of Al Pacino or the mattress, but I had an absolutely fantastic night's sleep, batteries fully recharged!
After the solid nights sleep and a full dutch breakfast, Arie arrived at 8:30am on the dot, smiling still despite the shoddy weather.
As we travelled towards Quasar HQ in Giessen through the blustery, scenic lowlands (a whole 2m above sea level), I was given an interesting history lesson of the local area and their flood defences which were breached by the devastating North Sea Flood of 1953, during which 9% of Dutch farmland was flooded. Thankfully the defences have been strengthened somewhat since then...
Upon arrival in Giessen, I was delighted to see the familiar building shown in the Quasar catalogue and managed to sneak a quick snap of Arie welcoming me in!
Once inside, I was absolutely blown away by the beauty of the magnificent fittings on show - they really are something else when you see them in the flesh and although the photos I took really don't do them justice, I thought I'd share down below!
Enjoy & Until Next Time...
Ps, special thanks to Arjens & Arie pictured with me at the top, as well as John, Teun, Sybille & the rest of the guys I met at Quasar!
